Professional Society comprising all stake holders in the system plays an important role in the promotion of professional cause. Such societies exist at regional, national or international level. Keeping in view the importance of the cooperation the weed science society of Pakistan was established in 2002 for promoting the cause of weed science in Pakistan. The society was effective in coordinating the workers in the discipline by organizing 5 conferences and issuing the Pakistan Journal of Weed Science Research. The publication of the journal however was discontinued due to some unavoidable constraints. The publication was however reviewed in 2001 and since then the journal is published regularly. The society was registered under society registration Act XXI of 1860 on June 11, 2002.
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE SOCIETY
The overall objective of the Society will be to enhance the agricultural productivity through economically feasible, socially acceptable and environmentally viable weed management strategies.
It will be accomplished through the following objectives:
a) To provide a forum to the weed scientists to exchange their ideas with their fellow scientists.
b) To recommend policies to the Government regarding the agriculture in general and the weed science in particular.
c) To maintain a liaison with the international societies, such a Weed Science Society of America, Weed Science Society of Japan, Chinese Weed Science Society and Asia-Pacific Weed Science Society etc.
d) To boost up the agricultural production through the coordinated efforts of the weed scientists by publishing Weed Science journal, monographs, books, bulletins, fact sheets etc.
e) To identify the outstanding workers in the area of Weed Science and recognize their services with presenting them awards and conferring honors.
To recommend a uniform curricula in Weed Science to University Grants commission for adaptation in Agricultural Universities and colleges and suggest amendments in the light of new findings on global level.
